Six years ago, striking founder Peter Brückel handed over the keys of the thriving full-service advertising agency to his daughter Daphne. The secret according to her? "We are always looking for new ways to remain all-round for our clients."

Adverteren in the Yellow Pages has given way to ads on Google and the drawing board to Photoshop, but the no-nonsense Hague-based agency Brückel Reclame has stood the test of time since 1969. Six years ago, striking founder Peter Brückel handed over the keys to the thriving full-service advertising agency to his daughter Daphne. The secret according to her? "We are always looking for new ways to remain all-round for our clients."

'We have a big toolbox and we get the right tools from that'

Brückel's portfolio of hundreds of 'long relationships' ranges from the baker around the corner to national parties like the NVM. But the main focus is on small and medium-sized businesses in The Hague. "If you come to us to reach your target group for a certain budget, we look at your question in its breadth," Daphne explains. "We have a toolbox and from that we extract the right tools for the ideal mix - always a fun challenge." Abri's, print, tram advertising, radio campaigns: Brückel knows what to do with everything.

Google Partner

The team also blows a nice party online. Back in the early days of social media, Brückel stepped in. And as of 2015, the agency can call itself a certified Google Partner. Daphne proudly talks about what she has achieved for Vendue House. "For them, we do all social media and ads on Google. When we started, they had 1,600 likes on Facebook and sold about 60 per cent per auction. Now, partly thanks to our efforts, they have over 40,000 followers and sales have risen to 80 to 90 per cent."

Daphne Brückel and her team know how to handle all advertising.

How strong the agency is in devising campaigns is also proven by its own expressions. The changing shop windows on Laan van Meerdervoort are famous in the city and put a smile on many a face. Example: the text 'ZOOOM' as a reference to the online meeting programme with an image of a bee underneath symbolising spring. Daphne: "Humour is important to us, especially in our own excesses. And we always wink at current events."

'You need to surround yourself with people who can teach you something'

Daphne keeps a close eye on those current events, especially when it comes to her field. "Customer demand has changed over time," she observes. "The stand building we used to do has disappeared completely. On the other hand, there is now more demand for PR and communication work. A new expertise for which we have also recruited additional manpower. After all, you need to surround yourself with people who can teach you something. And I'm not afraid to ask."

The Hague times

As if Brückel wasn't busy enough, the agency has also been allowed to call itself a publisher in recent years. In 2019, it housed the newspaper De Haagse Tijden - previously De Oud-Hagenaar. "Then publisher Constant Martini initially approached us to do the acquisition, and that went well. So when he wanted to quit, we grabbed the calculator to see if we could continue ourselves. That worked out: we now have a new editor and the layout is getting fresher," says Daphne.

Fantastic cameraman

Daphne is far from wanting to stop, but the next generation of the creative Brückel family is already knocking tentatively at the door. "My eldest son Dali is a fantastic cameraman and drone pilot," she says. "He is only 23 and is working on his own business. Occasionally he does a job for us, but I have no idea if he will ever want to take over the advertising agency. In any case, I'm not pushing him."
