Favourite restaurant
Kim Groenestein-van der Beek: Difficult, there are so many fine restaurants here. Publique, Zheng and Kiraku/Noh I find very tasty and refined, pure indulgence. I also find Indian restaurant Maharani on Noordeinde blissful when I'm in need of spicy food. But you can make me just as happy with a really good burger at De Eeuwige Jachtvelden or vegetarian food at the Lizard. Eating out makes me very happy at all.
Tastiest cake
Our wedding cake last August made by Nermina of Perfect Pastry. Chocolate and chocolate ganache with champagne and blueberry cream as filling. We had a few pieces left over, which we froze, and the last two pieces we will intentionally eat around Christmas.
My guilty pleasure? Cheese fondue at St Joris & the Draeck on Koningsplein
Guilty pleasure
Cheese fondue at St Joris & the Draeck in King's Square. Over the top in terms of quantity. Why? You get fries, grilled vegetables AND baguette with it.
Where in The Hague do you get a holiday feeling?
On the Grand Place - any season. Grab a terrace, some nibbles and a VaVoom cocktail to go with it. Really relaxing, (live) music in the background and people-watching. Like being on a city trip. Villa Ockenburgh also gives me a holiday feeling, lovely in the middle of the woods. Especially now that the catering is provided by House of Lords and they do social entrepreneurship, really a great combination! But also on the beach. I was born in Scheveningen, so the sea always beckons.
Golden tip from Kim
Looking for a really good massage? 'My' Thai masseuse Jam where I have been a client for 20 years, I think is the very best. I've been massaged at home and abroad, so I can definitely compare. First she worked in The Hague and now she has had her own business just outside it for years: Asia Wellness Rijswijk. In the Herenstraat. I make a detour for that.
Special shop
Wwen on Prinsestraat. Very nice shop where you are helped nicely and I get happy when I look around. I always find clothes there: colourful, feminine, mainly ecologically responsible and a very enthusiastic and creative owner (Wendeline). Years ago, I myself was a sales agent for a designer from London and those designs were in her shop. I was so proud.
Which Hague resident would you still like to interview?
Singer Valensia, who has been living in sunny Spain for years. I wonder what inspires him, because he makes beautiful music that touches me intensely.
