'Men in ministry'

Almost a hundred ladies gathered at the hip hotel voco The Hague in the heart of the Hofstad for an exclusive dinner. Men were not on the guest list.

"Today we are letting the men serve us," said hostess Annerieke Simeone of publisher Media Fresca with a wink. She and her brand-new publishing company are temporarily holding office in a special "meeting suite" in the hotel. "I am a publisher of high-quality books, magazines and newspapers about the good things in life," she said.

Men's World

Pr lady Leontine Smith, who also organises The Hague Women's Day, looked back at last week's International Women's Day. "Somehow crazy that there is a separate day for women, but still it is good that it exists. Especially internationally, there is still a lot to be gained." She sat next to brand-new voco director Mareke Watson. "It is still too often a man's world," she agreed. "Women are often too modest," complemented Annerieke Simeone. "A man just demands that pay rise."

Madonna statues

The ladies' dinner made for interesting cross-pollinations. Monica Spadafora of the well-known Italian family of goldsmiths, who has settled with a jewellery shop on the chic Denneweg, told former top New York lawyer Tlalit Packer: "We transform old jewellery into something new, but also offer our own collection. We have also been making crowns for Madonna statues for generations." Laughs: "But if Queen Máxima wants one, she is of course welcome!" Tlalit Packer has completely changed tack: "I started a chocolate shop selling refined chocolates. "On the Laan van Meerdervoort."
