Gastrovino, a gastronomic experience
What you taste in the restaurant of a Gastrovino La Liguria, you can buy in the shop, and vice versa. That formula has the future, according to Damiano Piacenza. But with quality and luxury products.
Als the antipasto all'Italiano appears on the table, the foursome at the window lean forward. "So, that burrata looks delicious, say. And that vitello tonnato." "What are these?", the lady asks the host. "Polpette della nonna, madam." She looks at her friends. "I'll take another portion of that later." And you can at Gastrovino La Liguria, the place where restaurant, shop and caterer blend flawlessly. "I think the Gastrovino formula is the future," says entrepreneur Damiano Piacenza.
Experience
"What you taste in the restaurant, you can buy in the shop, and vice versa. We want to serve our guests as well and personally as possible. We don't have a cashier, but a host or hostess. We don't provide people with products, but with a gastronomic experience."
For example, for wine lovers, there is a real tap with twenty wines. This eye-catcher is filled with the finest wines that you can tap by tasting measure (25 ml), half glass (75 ml) or whole glass (150 ml) with a special wine pass that you can buy on your first visit to the restaurant or Mercato.
28 Gastrovinos in the Netherlands
It has now been three years since the owners of Ristorante La Liguria and co-owners of Pizza Burrata on Noordeinde won the tender to revitalise the historic Sluiswachtershuis. Last April, the contemporary catering concept opened in the Mall of the Netherlands in Leidschendam. The branch on Hellingweg followed a few months later. There are currently 28 Gastrovinos in the Netherlands, with the head office here in Scheveningen.
'The success? Italian cosiness'
"The secret of our success? Italian cosiness. And quality." Jacobus Toet's luxury products also fit in nicely (see box). Piacenza is a fan of the hand-smoked salmon. "I don't eat it anywhere as delicious as here. Go and taste a sandwich later."
The catering area features the most delicious Italian dishes, such as gorgonzola with prosecco ('one of our bestsellers'), as well as fresh ravioli, pappardelle, tagliolini and spaghetti. Gastrovino Scheveningen has acquired a large pasta machine especially for this location.
Pasta
They also make the sauces themselves. You can buy sauce and pasta separately, but if you think: I just want to have to heat it up at home, they will cook that for you on the spot. And there's more: olive oil, aceto balsamico, freshly roasted nuts. And, of course, wines. Lots of wines. With an exclusive and in-house import range of no less than 750 wines from around the world, the chances of success are assured.

Three committees look after Gastrovino's core range: one determines the food, one the wines and one the gifts. Thanks to the gift committee, you will always find the perfect gift in the shop: from wine and delicacies to handy kitchen and wine tools. Always festively wrapped and perfect for treating yourself or someone else.
The exclusive products are selected by the committees especially for the group, as they all share the same passion for good food and drink. "You will find the most delicious varieties of focaccia here," Piacenza said. Baker Bussing in Numansdorp, also known as Gastrovino de Verleiding, makes many of the breads for the members. "That's the power of a formula. Together you can buy special wines and delicacies."
With Ristorante La Liguria, "the queen of the group", he also wants to be more creative with traditional dishes. "Towards fine dining." Doesn't it bother him that more and more Italian businesses are opening on the Noordeinde? "Not at all. From me there may be ten more. Nice anyway, Little Italy in The Hague. If I want to eat Chinese food, I also go to Chinatown."
He grabs one of his Gastrovino magazines and flips open the last page. The map of the Netherlands shows the 28 Gastrovinos. "Look, in the east and the south there is still quite a bit of ground to gain. Within three years, we want to get to 50 branches."
