Garoeda resurrects as Garuda
Lovely, such a typical Hague meeting. And that in the brand-new Voco Hotel, the former ABN Amro building on Kneuterdijk overlooking the monumental Lange Voorhout in autumnal glory. Only the mouth caps looked 21st-century.
Inside the hip restaurant in The Hague, publisher Annerieke Simeone handed out the new edition of her annual glossy magazine on the city of court to a host of (former) Hague residents. Among them was exhibition designer Nicole Uniquole, recently named woman of the week by fashion and culture magazine Harpers Bazaar. Because she put Dutch art on the map with her expo in Milan.
King's House
"Next year, I will open an exhibition in Fulda, Germany, about the Dutch royal family," she told me enthusiastically. Together with writer Reinildis van Ditzhuyzen, who knows everything about the Oranges. King William I ruled the tiny principality as Prince William Frederik between 1802 and 1806. Next year marks 220 years since he ascended the throne there. "Apart from King William II and King Willem-Alexander, all our kings and queens were married to a German" Nicole knows. "That's why the Germans consider our royal family to be theirs."
City marketing
Former Hague alderman 'city marketing' Frits Huffnagel now has his own city marketing office. "Among other things, we advise on the renewal of seaside resort Kijkduin", he told us. Not coincidentally, that project also features in the magazine, which under the name Bij Ons In De Residentie has been a household name in Hague circles for 10 years.

The VVD celebrity had no sympathy for the prick refusers: "'You just don't know what's in it,' young friends say to me. Then I reply: 'But you do take a pill at a dance party. As if you do know what's in that'."
Philips bosses
But there was also good news from The Hague: iconic Indonesian restaurant Garoeda will reopen soon. But as Garuda by Ron Gastrobar Indonesia. "I thought a 'u' looked better," explained Mady Wigleven, whose friend Richard van Leeuwen also owns all the Harbour-Clubs. "We are in Eindhoven converting the Karpendonkse Hoeve into a Harbour Club," he told us. Wondering if the Philips bosses will eat there again now.
