Franck Diafouka, Head of Audit at the European Medicines Agency, shares his five favourite spots in The Hague with us!

1. Favourite ice cream parlour

Het IJskabinet

The Ice Cabinet

Franck Diafouka: "For the best ice creams in The Hague, Het IJskabinet is the place to be. The flavours, the friendly and fast service and the wide opening hours make it my regular address. Dark chocolate, walnut, pistachio or rum-raisin - you can't go wrong here."

📍Place 31

2. Favourite cake shop

Jarreau

Jarreau

Diafouka: "With a (former) pastry chef as husband, I rarely visit a patisserie. But if I visit somewhere unexpectedly and don't want to arrive empty-handed, Jarreau's macarons and pastries are always a reliable choice."

📍Van Hoytemastraat 42

3. Favourite cocktail bar

Franky's Bar @ Villa Coucou

Franky's Bar

Diafouka: "For a cocktail, you've come to the right place at Franky's Bar - the old triple and lavender pisco sour are great. Still, I usually opt for whisky. Then Sixpence is the place, with an impressive drinks menu and a pub atmosphere that's hard to beat."

📍Laan van Meerdervoort 6

4. Favourite beauty salon

Blue Diamonds Health & Beauty Club

Blue Diamonds

Diafouka: "I discovered Blue Diamonds Health & Beauty Club only recently thanks to a gift voucher. As soon as you step inside, it feels like you forget time for a moment - a peaceful oasis in the middle of the city. Professional, friendly and definitely recommended."

5. Guilty pleasures

Diafouka: "In no particular order: admiring and collecting art (the Chiefs and Spirits gallery is highly recommended), ordering DVDs and watching them in one go (horror is a favourite - yes, I still watch DVDs!), getting honey from the beekeeper in Clingendael and eating herring at Paviljoen de Witte, preferably with sunset and a Marcelino cigar in hand."
