Vascobelo

Perfect for lunch and especially for business meetings. They have a ‘room with a view’ you can reserve for interviews or small gatherings. I love the atmosphere, the old armchairs, and their collection of books. For dinner, it’s De Dagvisser (Dr. Lelykade 26) every time: always the risotto verde, my favourite. The crème brûlée with a twist is equally delightful.

2. Favoriete ijssalon

Het IJskabinet

I always go for a scoop of chocolate; my husband always chose stracciatella. Recently, I even asked a stranger outside if I could buy her a scoop of stracciatella. What I also appreciate: the queues are never too long. Growing up with the long queues for bread under communism made me anxious in lines. At Het IJskabinet, I can calmly wait because you’re quickly rewarded with a delicious chocolate scoop!

For the absolutely delicious sachertorte. I could eat a whole one by myself (and actually have). If I want to give someone a present, I buy a sachertorte. I also love their nut strudel.

I enjoy their orange buns here. But I also come just for the bread and the refined apple pie. There’s a feeling you get when buying something here: that life has quality.

It’s the place where I treat myself, a small oasis in the fast pace of daily life. The owner recently advised me to dye my hair less often, as I was quite the enthusiastic hair colourer. Now, I just touch up my roots once every six weeks.
