Around the corner from us: Vruchtenbuurt
With its spacious porch flats, cosy single-family houses and a mix of quiet city streets, intimate squares and picturesque residential courtyards, the Vruchtenbuurt offers a unique piece of The Hague. A walk through this neighbourhood reveals how historical charm merges with surprising liveliness.
OWhether you are looking for local eateries and unique boutiques, or just want to enjoy the distinctive atmosphere, the Vruchtenbuurt has something for everyone. Curious about the hidden gems and local tips? Great, you'll discover them here!
Apples & pears
For the most delicious apple pie in The Hague, you need to go to Apples & pears are - logical of course, with a name like that. In summer, enjoy their generous terrace here on Appelstraat, but also in winter, Apples & Pears is a cosy base where you are surrounded by local residents. Above all, don't forget to make reservations, because it's always busy.
L.O.F.T.
Looking for a place to work, relax or meet new people? Then L.O.F.T. on Pomonaplein is for you. Here, owners Joshua and Stef, the creative minds behind L.O.F.T., share not only their home, but also an inspiring community filled with great ideas, feel-good food, art and activities that bring people together. 'The Land of Free Thought', as they call it themselves.
A third of the renovated Jerusalem church has been transformed into living space, while the other spaces have been made available for creative initiatives, a yoga studio and a bistro. Within the walls of L.O.F.T. you will also find Marijke, the face behind M.Y. Journey, a yoga instructor and personal trainer.
Coffee and Opportunities
Vintage shopping and lunch in one place: you can do it at Coffee and Opportunities on Apricot Street. "Almost everything on display and hanging here is for sale," says owner Georgia Charitopoulou. The chair we are sitting on does indeed have a price tag, as does the 1960s vase on the table. The coffee is - of course - served in a vintage cup and accompanying saucer. The name covers the load, it is clear. Highly recommended for a visit in the Vruchtenbuurt neighbourhood. You'll feast your eyes.
Porte Reffe
Porte Reffe on Vlierboomstraat has a spacious shop with a huge range of wines from Europe. The wines available here come only from small-scale vineyards. Each bottle is carefully selected and has its own story, and owner Marthijn is happy to tell you about that too.
The origin, the special grape variety, the ageing... there is no detail you can't find out here! Here, you are sure to leave the shop with a surprising bottle, from an affordable red wine to an exclusive bubble for that special moment.
The Chocolate Shop
Did you know that Europe's most sustainable chocolate shop is just in the Vruchtenbuurt neighbourhood? At Limoenhof you will find the small chocolate shop of owners and (yes) chocolate sommeliers Ray and Sanna. At The Chocolate Shop come for special bars and chocolates, as well as a cup of coffee or hot chocolate. Of all the chocolate sold in the shop, it is completely transparent and traceable where it comes from. 'From bean to bar' is not their slogan for nothing.
