1. Boutique Hotel Corona

Our own editor Jasper Gramsma stayed at Boutique Hotel Corona on the Buitenhof, right in the bustling centre of The Hague. Having lived in the Hofstad for years, he now works from France, but the Hague atmosphere always feels like coming home.

On arrival, he was kindly received by Amber, without the hip self-check-in. The room offered comfort, with a beautiful view of the Buitenhof and a desk for some work. "The bed was so inviting, I plopped right in," Jasper says.

After a delicious dinner on the terrace of BIT restaurant, where the dishes were "fresher than fresh", he enjoyed a peaceful night. "The night was so quiet and dark that I slept like a prince," he says. The perfect place for both work and relaxation.

2. De Plesman

KLM founder Albert Plesman would be proud of the hotel his old headquarters is now. De Plesman on Plesmanweg has 100 rooms, including 30 studios and suites, with high ceilings and unobstructed views. One special suite is furnished in the former office of Plesman himself.

At Townhouse The Hague, it's all about feeling truly at home. This 88-room 'Hague house' is within walking distance of the Binnenhof and the city centre. Waaijer also has two more Delft gems: Casa Julia ('small and a bit bohemian') and Huis Blaauwen ('a cool, old armoury with references to its trading past with the East').

5. Seaview

Living, working and accommodation come together in Seaview, the aparthotel on Gevers Deynootweg. You can be on the beach in a few minutes, but it's good to be inside too: 66 flexibly divisible studios in a contemporary setting, with a subtle reference to what once stood there.

6. Voco The Hague

Voco The Hague, located in the former bank building on Kneuterdijk, is seen as the The Hague's most sustainable hotel. The hotel uses eco-friendly initiatives, such as recycled material for clothes hangers, quilts made from recycled PET bottles and a jar of sugar instead of sugar sachets.

The Atrium

Cocktail bar Ultramarine offers creative, sustainable cocktails and non-alcoholic options, such as the 'Spar after dark'. Bar manager Ruben Hartog and his team choose reused ingredients in surprising, flavourful drinks. Leftover fruit, for example, is put into the dehydrator, a drying oven. Nienke explains: "By drying the fruit at low temperature, we can later use it as edible decoration in the drinks."

Featuring sustainable rooms, a cocktail bar and restaurant Botanica With vegetable dishes and responsible produce, the hotel offers comfort and quality for tourists and locals.

7. Kasteel de Wittenburg 

Kasteel de Wittenburg in Wassenaar combines luxury, history and hospitality in a neorenaissance monument. Once an exclusive members' club, the estate now welcomes guests for events, overnight stays and culinary experiences.

Hotel Indigo, located in the former premises of De Nederlandsche Bank on Noordeinde, offers a combination of history and modern comfort. The boutique hotel has retained elements of the old bank building, such as the marble entrance and round vault door.

The rooms are inspired by the 'golden age' with rich colours and contemporary design. Duncan Bond, former general manager says: "This hotel has so much character. Every room is unique. With every gulp you breathe in the history of the bank, but of course everything is spic and span with modern bathrooms."
