5 x new hotspots in The Hague

From a rooftop restaurant to a tapas bar by the sea - these places are worth trying.

1. Café Restaurant Flora

On the sixth floor of the former KPN telephone exchange in De Constant Rebecquestraat you will find Café Restaurant Flora. The Bartlema brothers from The Hague bring their experience from top restaurants to this new hotspot, where they create an informal atmosphere. Like eating at home with friends.

How they do that? By a simple menu: three starters, three pastas (meat, fish and vegetarian, such as pasta vongole with cockles), two to three main courses and a snack menu with small vegetable dishes. What else contributes to that homely atmosphere? A film, as the Flora Film Theatre will soon open on the same floor, where you can watch everything from arthouse to Hollywood - so yes, even 'Harry Potter' or 'Barbie'. We already know where our next night out with friends will be.

2. Giorgio Rosa

Catering entrepreneur and designer Rein Rambaldo, known for former restaurants Mama Kelly and Miss Jones (Voorburg), has opened his new business Giorgio Rosa in the Binckhorst, the old industrial area where his catering story once began. The restaurant combines Italian cuisine with Mediterranean influences. A special feature is the pasta lab, where homemade pasta is prepared. There are also pizzas, osso buco and other classics in a new look on the menu. The kitchen is headed by Donald van Oversteeg, chef at Miss Jones. Chef Eric-Jan Fransen from The Hague is also involved. The interior has a warm feel, with natural tones and round booths that invite long tables. The drinks menu includes drinks like Campari Spritz and surprising cocktails.

3. Brasserie Le Paris

Bienvenue à la Brasserie Le Paris! Catering entrepreneur René Bogaart, known for the Pavarotti restaurants, is not sitting still. He recently opened his seventeenth catering establishment: Brasserie Le Paris. Located by the water in Leidschendam, overlooking the pond, this French brasserie brings the atmosphere of Paris to the Netherlands, with an interior and façade reminiscent of the Champs-Élysées. What dishes suit? Escargots and steak tartare, of course, which are then on the menu. And after dinner? Take a seat at the bar or in one of the karaoke rooms and sing along to 'La Vie en Rose'.

4. Blue Fusion Tapas Bar

Blue Fusion Tapasbar is the new spot in Kijkduin. Here you will not only find well-known Spanish tapas like gambas al ajillo, but also tapas with influences from other cuisines, such as Japanese salmon tacos and beef tataki. They also host wine and tapas tastings in their own wine bar. For those who prefer something tasty at home, they have tapas boxes and wines to take away. And for oyster fans: every Sunday from 6pm to 7pm, you can get oysters for €1.50 each, with a glass of bubbly to go with it.

5. Jar48

On the corner of Vondelstraat, in Zeeheldenkwartier, you'll find Jar48 - and yes, that 48 in the name? That's just the house number. This delicatessen is the place to sip coffee or tea while discovering its delicacies. What can you find there? Natural wines, cheeses, Greek olives and spices. And there are plenty of vegan and gluten-free options too. Besides shopping, you can work, study or join one of the monthly workshops here, such as embroidery or making bosanski mantije, a traditional Bosnian dish. Pop into Jar48 for a cup of coffee and take home something delicious? Do.
