5 new hotspots in The Hague – May 2025

Looking for new places to have coffee, pizza or cocktails? Five new hotspots worth checking out joined the list in May.

1. Hop & Stork on De Fred

You know Hops & Stork probably from De Passage, but now a second shop on Frederik Hendriklaan in Statenkwartier has also opened! Anil Soekhoe, who ten years ago traded in his career as an international banker for his love of chocolate, has turned his passion into a place where quality products and hospitality go hand in hand. "Rich, complex works of art," Soekhoe calls it himself, and that applies to everything from pastries to coffee. And the inspiration comes from everywhere, from a crunchy cornflake chocolate from London to an almond croissant from Paris. Come taste it on De Fred.

2. Dunes Kijkduin

Sand between your toes? Not here. Dunes calls itself a beach club, but it is not on the beach, but right on the boulevard of Nieuw Kijkduin, overlooking the sea. Out of the wind, but totally in the atmosphere of a beach day. Think lunch, bites and dinner with Mediterranean influences: from bulgur salad and smash burgers to chicken suya and roasted cauliflower. The business is owned by Boris Schrama, who you might also know from BrewDog. That is one floor up, also on the promenade, which is also a good place for beer lovers. Fancy a sea view without the sand? Then you know where to go.

3. Pizza Beppe

It looks like Little Italy on the Denneweg. After hotspots like Vincenzo's, Impero Romano, Mammamia and La Bruschetta & Co, there is now Pizza Beppe. This catering chain, which is also popular in other cities, bakes according to the Neapolitan method: an airy base, high crust, 90 seconds in a hot oven. Exactly as it should be, they think at the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana that gave its seal of approval. The menu includes classics, vegan and vegetarian pizzas, and one in the shape of a heart. With tomato and basil, of course. We would like to try that one with our amore in Neighbourhood 2005.

4. Restobar Harvey

Gen Z is not sitting still. In Oud Rijswijk, within cycling distance of The Hague, four twenty-somethings now run Restobar Harvey. They met each other at Restaurant & Hotel Savarin in Rijswijk, wanted something for themselves and opened a place where anything goes and nothing is compulsory. Coffee and tartelettes are available from 10 a.m. and later in the day, sourdough rolls (from Bro, a baker in The Hague), snacks and evening meals are served. Think burrata, a bitterbal or a next-level cheeseboard. Harvey may be in Rijswijk, but we think it fits effortlessly into The Hague's list of fun hotspots. We would say: hop on your bike and go try it for yourself.

5. Caipi Café

The Caipi Boys started in 2012 with a home-made cocktail bar on Scheveningen beach. From there, they travelled from festival to festival, always with their bamboo bar in tow. They have since become a familiar face in the cocktail world, with their own drink label, Caipi Cocktail Spirits. This spring, they will open their new home: the Caipi Café in the Zeemanshuis at the Visafslag. Here, where sailors used to congregate, the boys add their own mix: cocktails, Asian-inspired street food snacks and live music and DJs. And don't forget: there's fresh fish from the BBQ every day, because after all, they're on the harbour. With the sea in the background and a sunny terrace, Caipi Café is the perfect start to your summer.
