5 x best coffee spots in The Hague
Looking for the best coffee? Editor-in-chief Annerieke and editor Meike share their favourite coffee hotspots in The Hague with you.
SunSun Coffee
A month ago, the new coffee shop SunSun Coffee opened on Goudenregenplein. The clean space uses three brewing methods: an espresso machine, a yellow Moccamaster and a so-called 'dripper' by Korean brand Holzklotz. And while coffee is the main focus, you'll find a rich collection of sweet: cakes from the Statenkwartier-based French patissier Tartine and Nootdorp-based cake bakers Taart-Enzo, among others, as well as Nix Peanut Butter Bars.
Café Madeleine
To get a taste of Paris, you don't have to leave The Hague. At Café Madeleine, located at a lively intersection on the edge of the Bomenbuurt neighbourhood, you imagine yourself in a Parisian bistro for a while. The café has a relaxed atmosphere and offers many vegetarian and vegan dishes. Our favourite: the harirasoup. On hot summer days, they open the terrace on Valkenbosplein, where you can relax in the shade of the beautiful trees.

Café Blossom
Café Blossom is right behind the impressive Peace Palace. Bonus. It's always cosily packed here. With local residents, freelancers and business people. Blossom enjoys delicious coffee, drinks, good breakfast and lunch dishes, but especially the daily freshly baked cakes that we marvel at every day via their Instagram account. It's also a good place to unfold your laptop.
Bookstor
This old bookshop on Noordeinde turned into a hybrid coffee shop. At the front you will find a sunny terrace, but most of all, walk inside. Walls full of second-hand books, stained-glass windows, several cosy seating areas and a courtyard garden. The monument in which Bookstor is located will have existed for 100 years in 2021. You can feel and see this unique, authentic atmosphere.
5. John & June's
John & June's has two branches. A lunchroom on Tasmanstraat in Zeeheldenkwartier and a coffee shop on the edge of the Scheveningse Bosjes in the Archipel neighbourhood. As far as we are concerned, location 2 is preferable. On a sunny day, this is a great place to sit outside after a long walk or get a coffee to-go to take to the adjacent playground. And they have the best carrot cake in town.
